He graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences (2011), and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (2016). During veterinary school, Myk took a particular interest in aquaculture and bovine medicine.
After graduation, Myk went out to British Columbia to work as a veterinarian and fish health manager for the salmon producer Mowi Canada West (formerly Marine Harvest Canada). Working in the BC salmon industry, Myk had the opportunity to develop a strong background and skill set in production medicine. In addition to conducting on-site farm visits, Myk had to apply the principles of biosecurity, preventative health management, and production and health data analysis to inform management decisions and promote the health and productivity of his patients. Myk has also been actively involved in the aquaculture veterinary community, serving as the president of the Association of Aquaculture Veterinarians of BC (AAVBC) since 2018.
After working in BC for over three years, he has returned to Ontario and joined the UGVS team to head up the aquaculture medicine branch of the practice and to have the chance to work with large animals again. Myk and his wife Aurelija are very excited to be home in Ontario close to their families. In his spare time, Myk enjoys fishing, hiking, gardening, and cooking.
